PROMISE Updates
CFWV PROMISE TAB

Each year I am asked multiple questions about the Promise Scholarship. The best place for most answers is found on the www.cfwv.com website, under the Promise Tab.

The application for PROMISE will open November 1, 2016. I recommend ALL seniors apply because plans change and scholarship money is always wonderful. You do not need to have met the requirements by the time you apply. You have until June 2017 to meet all requirements so it's best to APPLY EARLY! Application deadline is March 1, 2017.

PROMISE Scholarship
The PROMISE Scholarship is a merit-based financial aid program for West Virginia residents. Students who achieve certain academic goals are eligible to receive funds to help pay for college. Eligible high school graduates will receive annual awards up to $4,750 to cover the cost of tuition and mandatory fees at public or independent institutions in West Virginia. Please remember, this scholarship does not transfer to schools outside of West Virginia.

REQUIREMENTS FOR PROMISE HAVE CHANGED:
Beginning with the 2016-2017 School Year, Eligibility Requirements are:

  • 3.0 Core GPA (Just your core courses - Eng, Hist, Math, Sci)

-The SAT writing portion is not included in the calculation of the composite score
  • Scores for both ACT & SAT must be from a single testing date; not a combination of multiple tests.

FAFSA Information
FAFSA

Seniors! There have been changes made to the FAFSA for the 2017-2018 school year.

  • The FAFSA will now be available October 1, 2016, whereas it has not been available until January 1 in previous years.
  • For the 2017-2018 school year, students will still use their parents' 2015 filed taxes.
